Did you know that finding a better path to accomplishing your goal is to work with yourself? It’s easy to work against yourself, but to stay positive, you need to learn to work with who you are as a person and your own inner traits.
For example, let’s say you have made a New Year’s resolution and one month in you decide that you aren’t sure how to stick with it and you start to sabotage yourself as you start to give up, now you are working against yourself.
This article is going to share with you some key points on how you can focus on the right path, and stay the course as you work with yourself.
Decide to Work with Yourself
Okay, so you aren’t sure what it means to work with yourself?
Like most folks, you probably have a list of things about you as a person that you think need to change.
The following list gets the most attention around New Year’s including:
- Getting a “new look”
- Losing weight
- Get a new job
- Go skydiving or doing something “big”
As you can see the list is already stacking up to be outrageously challenging for most people. This is because it is outrageous to make too many big changes at one time. Instead, choose something that is a part of your journey in life or where you want to go. This will make it easier to stick with it.
I find that most of the time people want to be someone else. You can only be you. If you believe that trying to be someone else is better than being who you are, you have a long way to get where you desire.
Instead, you should be focused on you, and what fits your life. Don’t write up a list of expectations that don’t align with you and who you are as a person. Be real and be honest with yourself. For many this will take some soul searching. You have to stop and take the time to think about what you desire so you can focus on getting there, otherwise, you will keep letting yourself down.
Once you take this approach, you’ll be more focused and able to achieve the goals you’ve set. You’ll also discover that you can sustain what it takes for you to reach those goals every day. That’s the key…sustaining your focus.
Here are a couple of other tools to help you stay true to yourself, give them a try!
Write up a realistic game-plan. If you don’t set goals and then come up with a plan to achieve them, you’ll get nowhere fast.
Make a list of your short-term goals and your long-term goals.
Then, come up with your timeline. Is it reasonable?
Always keep your list in front of you so that you see it every day. The most successful people make sure they can see their list when they rise first thing in the morning. They also make sure they can see it at night before they go to bed. Have you ever done this? It can be really effective. Give it a try.
These are some important steps you can take to make sure that you are able to work with yourself and NOT against yourself. Does this make sense?
Work with Yourself Every Day for Best Results
As you work to accomplish your goals, see to it that you do everything possible to get there. It’s called hard work because it’s hard! There is no easy road to accomplishing your goals. It also takes you being mindful of eliminating bad habits along the way.
Everything that you do today and every day thereafter becomes a stepping stone for you to accomplish your goals. Once you work toward these goals you’ll have a greater sense of who you are and what you are capable of. And that is a great feeling!
Never fear the work. It is all a part of becoming a better person.
If you make a firm commitment to this, you’ll learn that the key to success in everything in life is all about learning to “work with yourself”.
